Overview
Bundle Futures was a significant initiative undertaken during my time at Bundle (a social cryptocurrency platform), aimed at introducing a new product that allowed users to trade futures on various crypto assets. This project aligned with Bundle's broader mission to educate its users about cryptocurrency, demystifying the complexities of the space and making it more accessible to a wider audience.

Context
With the growing interest in cryptocurrency trading, there was a clear demand for advanced trading features like futures trading. However, many potential users were intimidated by the complexity and perceived risks associated with futures trading. The challenge was to create a feature that not only provided advanced trading capabilities but also educated users, making the process more transparent and less daunting.

Research and insights
One of my primary research tools was a comprehensive market analysis of several leading cryptocurrency platforms and their execution of futures trading. In addition to market analysis, I conducted user interviews with individuals from the Bundle community with varying experience and knowledge of futures trading.

Educational gaps
Many users lacked a thorough understanding of futures trading, including its benefits and risks.

Increase user retention
Existing futures trading platforms were often cluttered and difficult to navigate, leading to user frustration.

Onboarding
During the ideation phase, my primary goal was to create a seamless entry point for users. I settled on a combination of the feature card and a badge as the least intrusive ways to link users to the product. I also set conditions for their different uses case.

After introducing the feature card and badge, I elected to use a familiar and engaging format, similar to Instagram stories, to provide more information about the feature.
This approach had already proven successful on Bundle for introducing crypto concepts, and I believed it would be just as effective in educating users about futures trading.

I combined that with an interactive guided tour of the trading interface, highlighting key areas and providing context-specific explanations for each element.

Trading Interface
A clean and intuitive interface that allowed users to trade futures with confidence, with clean and organized charts and data visualizations to help users make sense of market trends

Contextual pop-ups that explained complex terms to help users manage and understand the risks associated with futures trading.

Outcome
Despite the anticipation and extensive design effort that went into developing the Futures trading feature for Bundle Africa, the project ultimately didn't launch. The company made a strategic pivot to prioritize it's peer-to-peer payment infrastructure.
While the Futures feature never saw the light of day, the experience further taught me the importance of flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing market conditions and business priorities.
