Overview
How do you design a futures trading interface that educates first-time users while satisfying seasoned traders? At Bundle Africa, we confronted this tension head-on. Our mission wasn’t just to build features, but to dismantle barriers.
By blending intuitive UI patterns with bite-sized educational nudges, we transformed complexity into confidence.

As the lead designer, I was responsible for:
Designing the onboarding experience and trading interface.
Ensuring the feature was both powerful and accessible to new users.

Onboarding
Problem: Users needed a clear, non-intrusive way to discover and learn about futures trading.
Solution:
Introduced feature cards and badges to gently nudge users toward the new feature.
Used Instagram-like stories to explain futures trading in a familiar, engaging format.
Added an interactive guided tour to walk users through the trading interface.
Problem: Users needed a clear, non-intrusive way to discover and learn about futures trading.

After introducing the feature card and badge, I elected to use a familiar and engaging format, similar to Instagram stories, to provide more information about the feature.
This approach had already proven successful on Bundle for introducing crypto concepts, and I believed it would be just as effective in educating users about futures trading.

I combined that with an interactive guided tour of the trading interface, highlighting key areas and providing context-specific explanations for each element.

Trading Interface
Problem: Users needed a clean, organized interface to trade futures confidently.
Solution:
Designed a minimalist trading interface with clear charts and data visualizations.
Highlighted key areas (e.g., order placement, market trends) with tooltips and explanations.

Outcome
Despite the anticipation and extensive design effort that went into developing the Futures trading feature for Bundle Africa, the project ultimately didn't launch. The company made a strategic pivot to prioritize it's peer-to-peer payment infrastructure. While the feature never launched, the experience reinforced valuable lessons.

Lessons learned
Flexibility is key: The project taught me to adapt to changing business priorities and market conditions.
User education matters: Complex features like futures trading require thoughtful onboarding and clear explanations.
